Eric J. Steiner

Eric Steiner is a seasoned public official who has worked in the legislative and executive branches of government and in the private sector since coming to Washington, DC, in 2002.

At age 18, Indiana FFA Members elected him to serve a full-time volunteer year as a state officer.  At 26, Steiner served as a Professional Staff Member at the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.  At 30, he served first as Associate Administrator and then as Chief of Staff at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service to supervise over 1,300 employees and manage a $60 billion budget for nationwide food assistance programs affecting 1 in 5 Americans.  At 33, Steiner represented the nation's wheat growers' interests to Congress and the Administration. Today, he serves as a Senior Professional Staff Member at the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.

Steiner also served as a law clerk in the Office of the General Counsel at the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, as a Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellow at the Congressional Hunger Center, and as an intern at the American Farm Bureau Federation.

As a legislative practitioner, political advisor, coalition builder, idea generator, problem solver, team player, lawyer, and media spokesperson, Steiner’s ability to work with both political parties and the executive branch has made his advice sought by elected officials, corporate executives, civil servants, and nonprofits to shape public policy and improve Federal programs in agriculture, transportation, nutrition assistance, and international trade and food aid.

Steiner leads by example, is a lifelong learner, and strives to empower and mentor his employees and colleagues to advance their career success.  He earned his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education from Purdue University, and his Juris Doctor from the George Mason University School of Law.

Steiner grew up on a small family farm in Indiana.  From fields to boardrooms to everywhere in between, he enjoys interacting with people from all walks of life.  Steiner resides with his wife in Alexandria, Virginia, and is active in his church and community. He is a marathon runner and a triathlete.
